chamberlain sign

Chamberlain was named for Selah Chamberlain who was director of the Milwaukee Railroad in 1880. It is rumored that the Native Americans called Chamberlain Makah Tepee, or "Mudhouse", because a hermit had a dugout here. Chamberlain has been considered the gateway to the Old West, lying just East of the Missouri River. Chamberlain was incorpated as a City in 1882.
